Rare Beauty, the cosmetic line founded by multi-talented artist Selena Gomez, announced on Monday that it will be making donations to Palestinian civilians amid the Israel-Palestine war.
Taking to Instagram, Rare Beauty’s official account shared the news to their 6.4 million followers, condemning Israeli airstrikes and voicing their support for Palestinian victims.
“Thousands of innocent Palestinian civilians have been killed in Israeli airstrikes & millions of civilians have been displaced [and] left without access to food, water, medicine, or basic necessities for survival,” the caption reads. “Palestinian civilians must be protected, period.”
The brand will be making donations, particularly to the International Red Cross or Red Crescent Societies – Magen David Adom, Palestinian Red Crescent Society, and UNICEF to provide medical relief and resources to the children of Gaza.Rare Beauty also urged everyone to extend help to humanitarian organizations in the midst of the “Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza.”
“We urge everyone to support humanitarian organizations working tirelessly to provide aid & relief to those in need. Every bit of help can make a difference,” the post reads.
The news came after Gomez received backlash over her statement on the Israel-Hamas conflict.
On Oct. 31, the musician posted a statement on her Instagram stories, announcing that she would be taking a break from social media because her “heart breaks to see all the horror, hate, violence and terror that’s going on in the world.”
“We need to protect ALL people, especially children and stop the violence for good,” the actress wrote.
The Instagram story has put Gomez in hot water as netizens accused the 31-year-old singer of taking a ‘neutral’ stance on the matter.
After receiving negative feedback, she announced that she would be deleting her Instagram account in a follow-up story. As of writing, the account has not yet been deleted.
Selena Gomez holds the record for being the most-followed female musician and actor on Instagram, with over 430 million followers.
Her makeup line, Rare Beauty, has long been recognized for its philanthropic endeavors. One illustration of this is the Rare Impact Fund, a part of Rare Beauty’s effort to increase mental health awareness.
